Meeting Children’s Needs

Friends of Alaska CASA sets aside funds every year to help meet the needs of children in state custody. Although foster parents and OCS do their best to provide for these children, there are sometimes gaps that Friends of Alaska CASA can help fill. When you donate to FAC, here are some of the ways your money will be spent:

  • Minigrants: CASA volunteers and Guardians ad litem may apply for these small grants to help provide opportunities such as music lessons, camp, and athletic activities. CASA volunteers and GALs: Apply Online.
  • Camperships: CASA volunteers and Guardians ad Litems may apply for funding to send children on trial home visits to camp. The funds may be used for overnight camp, organized summer adventure classes, and local day camps. Apply online.
  • Dickison Scholarship: After 16 years as the CASA state director, Brenda Dickison moved from Alaska in 2006. To honor her, the FAC board established the Dickison Educational Travel Scholarship. The scholarship is available to Alaska public high school students in state custody.  Please read the scholarship instructions for more information.
